I Love You, Beth Cooper

I bought, started and finished this wonderful book by Larry Doyle today. I won’t lie I was largely drawn to it because of the movie commercials and the fact that Hayden P. is on the cover (as she is one of my favorite young Hollywoodians) I only knew the basis of the story because of the commercials but I was wondering through chapters and decided to give it a go. Needless to say I couldn’t put it down.

The plot is, as Doyle points out in the preface, everything that anyone has ever seen in a teen movie… with more gore, nudity and violence added to finish it off perfectly. The whole story was entertaining and I actually laughed out loud a few times, which rarely happens when I’m reading (in fear that the people around me will think I’m crazy) but with this book I couldn’t help it.

The characters are people you imagine from your own high school, the three popular girls, one being REALLY stupid and easy, another being smarter then she seems who has real dreams and just wanted to survive and fit in through high school. And the leader, who everyone thinks is nice and pretty and perfect, but turns out to be a snotty, full of herself cigarette toting dirt bag.
There’s the nerd who will eventually become superior to the others when he grows out of his awkward stage, and his gay best friend who refuses to admit he is gay.
The eater, the anorexic, the bully all of these notable high school characters make cameos through out the story.

It’s everything you would expect from a light summer read, no real emotion and a lot of laughs.
I definitely suggest reading it, and read it before the  movie!!! It’s probably better anyways:)!

I give this book 4/5 diamonds, it delivered everything that was expected, no more… but no less!

Graduated… so now what?

Posted in Uncategorized on May 24, 2009 by jenshearer

Technically I graduate on June 12th.09, but I have received my final grades and because I passed all of my classes I have officially been graduated since I finished my last exam: April 30th.09.

What does this mean?

I don’t HAVE to attend school in September, unless I choose to go onto college. (Which I can’t do because I can’t afford to, thanks to being in debt from getting my degree)

I’m supposed to have moved on to a “real” job where I would be somehow advancing my career. (But because I don’t know what I want my career to be, or anyone who can get me a job in an office this is difficult…)

I have found a full time job…. working retail getting paid minimum wage and selling clothing that I will only be able to afford because of my discount. (But I get a discount so that’s a bright side right? a discount.. to buy clothing I HAVE to wear at work anyways…)

So in conclusion I have graduated and will be working with high school students in a retail job all summer, as opposed to “launching my career” and somewhere along the way I am supposed to figure out what career I want.

Final thought, when they are making a movie about what I am going through it shows I’m not alone… but I’m banking that at the end of the movie the main character, played by Alexis Bledel, gets a pretty decent job, and lives happily ever after. There is also something about her getting the guy and that making everything better, I’ve got news for ya I’ve got “The Guy” and that doesn’t help me figure out any career goals… postgrad

OC Transpo

Posted in Uncategorized on April 25, 2009 by jenshearer

Three years I have been living in Ottawa and really only relying on the transit system for 2. That’s not a full 2 years because of the wonderfully inconvenient strike last winter. I would like to preface this by saying my following comments to not apply to all OC transpo drivers, some are genuinely nice people who work hard and have to deal with some pretty horrible people who ride their buses.

Unfortunately there are bus driver’s who are so bitter about their jobs that they treat people who are paying to ride the bus like complete crap.

I have been personally yelled at by a bus driver who tried to drive away from Hurdman station while a woman’s purse was stuck in the back doors, while she was on the outside of the bus attached to the purse and chasing it. The entire bus yelled at the bus driver to stop the bus, and he then proceeded to yell back that maybe the person should have had enough time to get on the bus and it was her own fault.

Today at the Metcalfe stop the 85 stopped for a total of 30 seconds, an old woman was trying to get to the front doors and the driver started to pull away the woman tapped on the bus, probably thinking he didn’t see her, as it was her RIGHT to board the bus, but he turned looked at he and drove away. This is rude and disrespectful.

I may be too young, not yet jaded, and someone of an idealist when I say this but if your job makes you that unhappy maybe it’s time to find a new one, especially when you work in the customer service industry, because I promise you if you don’t want to be there we don’t want you there.

Thank you. That is all.

It told me I needed to title the picture

So I have a bit of an ad obsession. I feel I should share

This ad is hilariously awkward and really gets the point across. It’s crud to an English speaking audience but that catches off guard for sure.

I don’t know if she is hallucinating, or it’s supposed to be symbolic but it definitely catches the eye and shows how stupid people get when they are smoking pot.

What? This is a McDonald’s commercial? I’m confused… don’t those normally have food in them?

more to come in the near future:)!

Ur So Not Right

Posted in Uncategorized on April 24, 2009 by jenshearer

Can someone please explain to me what any person would be thinking about when creating a song like this?

First of all any idiot who uses abbreviations for your or you’re knows that Ur does not mean you are, and WHY were abbreviations necessary? It’s a song not a text message, you’re* not being clever.

Second of all what does GAY have to do with the fact that this boy (or ken doll) doesn’t like you (or your* Barbie)

Thirdly the Barbie dolls, the background, all of it… if you don’t have enough money to make a good video don’t make one, because the creativity you are attempting to express is really not working in your favor.

I’ve added a link to the lyrics below so that people who can not stand the lack of talent can read the “witty” lines present in this oh so “entertaining” song.

*Please notice my correct use of the words YOUR and YOU’RE
